Kongull hardware description

The Kongull cluster is a CentOS 5.3 Linux cluster running Rocks on HP servers with AMD processors. The cluster has 98x 12-way nodes, with 1 login, 4 I/O and 93 compute nodes. Each node is equipped with 2x 6-core 2.4 GHz AMD Opteron 2431 (Istanbul) processors, with 6x 512KiB L1 cache and a common 6 MiB L3-cache. Istanbul supports the MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSE4a, Enhanced 3DNow!, NX bit, AMD64, AMD-V (SVN & Rapid Virtualization Indexing) and HT-Assist extensions.

Login and I/O nodes

5 HP DL385 G6 servers, each node with

  • 2 AMD 2431 Istanbul processors
  • 24 GiB memory
  • 2 HP 300GiB 10000 RPM SAS system discs
  • 1 HP P410/512MiB SAS/SATA RAID controller
  • 4 1GbE network ports on the motherboard
  • 1 HP NC522SFP+ Dual Port 10GbE network card
  • 1 HP FC2242SR 4GiB PCIe Dual Port Fibre channel adapter

Compute-nodes

Kongull has 93 compute nodes (1116 cores in aggregate) servicing batch jobs, of which 44 nodes have a large 48 GiB of memory and the other 49 nodes have 24 GiB of memory. The nodes are HP DL165 G6 servers, each with

  • 2 AMD 2431 Istanbul processors
  • 24 or 48 GiB memory
  • 149GiB 15000 RPM SAS system disc

Network

The network layout is a "Fat Tree". Each login- and I/O-node is connected to a central switch, HP ProCurve 6600-24XG, with 10GbE SPF+ connectors. Two rack switches, ProCurve 2910al-48G are connected to the central switch with 10GbE SPF+ connectors. Each compute node is connected to a rack switch with 1Gb Ethernet network connection to the outside world, via two SR tranceivers on the central switch.
