How to get an account if your not associated with NTNU

To get an account on any NOTUR system you will need to apply to Uninett Sigma. The procedures for applying can be found at Uninett Sigma's web pages.

Note that if you are a student, PhD-student or guest researcher at your organization, you will need approval from a project responsible to get account. A project responsible manage the allocations units a research project is granted for doing their computations. If you are new to NOTUR and not related to a NOTUR research project, your supervisor may act as project responsible. Your supervisor may apply for allocation units through Uninett Sigma, see the link above.

 

How to get an account if your associated with NTNU (student, PhD-student, guest or employed)

To get an account on njord.hpc.ntnu.no, you will need to complete an application form and send it to adm@hpc.ntnu.no. The form is found at the web pages of Utvalget for beregningsvitenskap og visualisering (BVV) (In Norwegian http://www.ime.ntnu.no/forskning/tungregning).

Note that if you are a student, PhD-student or guest researcher at NTNU, you will need approval from a project responsible to get account. A project responsible manage the allocations units a research project is granted for doing their computations. If you have not used an HPC system at NTNU before, your supervisor may act as project responsible. Your supervisor will need to apply for a allocation through  by sending a email to adm.@notur.ntnu.no.

 

Account information - user credentials

You will receive account information by email. Your user password is sent to your mobile phone as a SMS-message. When you have received your password, you must immediately change it. See below on how to change your password below.

 

Password and account protection

A user is given a username (also known as a login name) and associated password that permits her/him to access NOTUR resources. This username/password pair may be used by a single individual only: passwords must not be shared with any other person.

Passwords must be changed as soon as possible after exposure or suspected compromise. Exposure of passwords and suspected compromises must immediately be reported:

NOTE: Each user is responsible for all activities originating from any of his or her username(s).

A username/password pair must NOT be shared under any circumstances. Users who share their passwords will have their access to NOTUR systems disabled. Users should not leave clear-text passwords in a location accessible to others or secured in a location for which protection is less than that required for protecting the information that can be accessed using the password.

Obtaining a new password from user support

If you have forgotten your password send an email to user support:

Closing of user accounts

User accounts on njord are automatically removed when they expire in the user database.

The home directories of the user accounts that have been removed are manually deleted after 12 months. Deleted home directories may, however, be restored from backup during the 6 months following the deletion.

Old files on /work are automatically removed after 21 days after last access or modification.
