Determining the AIX OS revision
Precise information on the current AIX OS release is obtained with the oslevel command:
$ oslevel -s 5300-09-02-0849
This system runs AIX 5.3.9.2, or AIX 5.3 TL9 SP 2. This means AIX5, version 3, technology level (TL) 9 and service pack (SP) 2, released week 49, 2008. A technology level contains new features compared to previous levels, while service packs contains fixes only. The first digit is actually the POWER processor architecture of the system. An AIX4 system runs POWER4, AIX5 runs POWER5 and so on.
