Specifications

by Roy Einar Dragseth last modified Nov 28, 2011 09:35 AM

Summary

The machine room is designed for water cooled racks. The current system is designed around hot air containment within the rack, but a solution with water cooled doors should work equally well. All network and power infrastructure is provided through four layers of roof-mounted rails. The water pipes supplying the cooling is laid out under a raised floor.

Dimensions

The physical dimension of the room is 14.4m x 7m. The door is 2.40 m high and 1.70 m wide.

REMARK: The transport path from the loading ramp to the machine room has a door that is only 215 cm high. This should be taken into account when planning the installation of new equipment.

Floor

Physical limits

  • The room has a raised floor, 30cm, with 60x60 cm tiles.
  • The maximum floor load is 2250 kg per square meter.
  • The maximum point load is 450kg with a security margin of 2.5.

Roof rails

The machine room is equipped with four layers of roof mounted rails. The distance from the raised floor to the lowest rail is 250 cm. Detailed rail layout

Power

The total power capacity is 500 kW non-UPS power and 50 kW UPS power.

  • Each non-UPS rack position has two 32A, 400V, 3 phase power connections and one 16A, 400V, 3 phase power connection.
  • Each UPS rack position has two 16A, 400V, 3 phase power connections.

Details of the power distribution

It is possible to install additional UPS power connections in the room if needed for a distributed network infrastructure.

Cooling

The machine room has a closed water loop cooling system connected through a heat exchanger to the central cooling system of the building complex housing the machine room. Detailed cooling layout

  • The cooling water is pressurized. The current system is running at 3.5 Bar, this can be adjusted.
  • The supplied water temperature is 11 degC.
  • The total cooling capacity is 500 kW.
