Reduced I/O performance on Stallo.
All harddrives on the global file system on Stallo will be replaced during week 34 and 35 (Aug. 23rd -- Sept. 6th)
All harddrives on the global file system on stallo will be replaced to fix the occasional hang situations.
The replacement process will be done while the system is online and is estimated to last for more than two weeks, e.g. twelve working days.
The process of changing the 800 HDs is to replace one disk in each of the 64 storage arrays, wait one day to let the raid rebuild to use the new disk, replace the next disk and so on. Each array hold 12 disks so the process is expect to take 12 working days. The storage arrays will have reduced performance while the rebuild process runs, so users will experience slower response to file commands etc.
We are sorry for the trouble this may cause, but we hope to come out of this process with a more stable system. This disk replacement also allows us to expand the file system in the future.
Best regards, The HPC Team.
